Someone at work came up to me today and posed this question:
If you had all your senses taken away but one, which one would you keep?
Something of a sobering thought, yes?
There were seven of us that were asked that and after a few minutes we all independently offered the same response. Take a look inside the comments section and see how yours compares.

Every one of us said we'd keep the sense of touch. The senses of taste, sight, and hearing, while important, aren't exactly vital. We're probably more attuned as humans to scent than we realize, picking up on subtle differences in aroma, those aromas triggering different physiological responses. But given that those responses are probably more on a primal level, we wouldn't miss them as much. But touch, however...that's largely how we interact with our world. If denied all other senses, our skin/nerves can still see and hear for us, and to be deprived the touch of a loved one would be too much to bear. If I can feel, I can relatively easily communicate and interact with the world around me. If I can feel, I can see and listen. If I can feel, I can still give AND receive a hug or a kiss to another.
What'd you all say?
An interesting question indeed. I think I would go a different route. I have always thought of myself as an observer (I know as loud as I am, that maybe funny) but reality being able to observe my suroundings would be better for me. Not being able to feel? Yea, there would be alot of relearning how to pick up a pencil and typing would be a new experience, but I would still be able to observe my friends, and their intereactions with others. Heck... why am I an engineer again??? =)
This question actually forces an answer, provided you know the repercussions of losing your sense of touch. Having no sense of touch is a condition that some people have and the side effects are life threatening, they can't feel pain and their bodies overheat without them knowing it. If you were given the choice and did NOT choose touch, then you'll constantly have to be watching your back for the reaper...
